Roll Cage Tugs and the LIFTEK CAGEMOVER
A roll cage tug, or simply a cage tug, is a piece of powered manual handling equipment designed for assisting the safe movement of one or a collection of roll cages.
While effective at transporting commercial goods, roll cages are large, heavy when both loaded and unloaded, and difficult to manoeuvre on uneven ground or in large groups of cages. This can lead to cages falling or becoming out of control, which often leads to personal injury and even damage to the cage and goods it is carrying. An electric roll cage tug or roll cage mover enables the safe movement of the cages.
How Does a Roll Cage Tug Work?
A roll cage tug aims to achieve safe handling by taking the burden of moving the cages away from the operator. Cage tugs work by clamping to the bottom of the cage then, under control of the operator, applying enough force to pull or push the cages at the speed dictated by the operator. Without any force, the tug will stabilise the cages to prevent it from moving. As with other pieces of roll cage tug machinery, this equipment is solely designed for the assisted towing of roll cage tugs. By taking the strain of pushing or pulling the tug away from the operator, it helps prevent short- and long-term injuries. It also prevents damage to the roll cages and goods, saving money in replacing or repairing that damage.
What’s the Difference Between a Cage Tug and the CAGEMOVER?
The Liftek CAGEMOVER differs from a cage tug by wholly moving a roll cage, rather than just towing it. It operates differently by lifting the entire cage off the ground and securing it in a specialised cage bay. This prevents the cage from falling or tipping over during operation. The operator then moves the CAGEMOVER equipment, with the cage secured on the equipment.
What are the safety benefits to the CAGEMOVER?
Utilising the CAGEMOVER instead of a regular roll cage tug presents a number of benefits to the operator and the commercial parties involved. Because the CAGEMOVER fully secures the roll cage on to the equipment itself, rather than just towing it, there are benefits to personal safety and damage prevention. While cages can still tip over during towing operation, the CAGEMOVER’S design prevents this – meaning there is a highly reduced risk of personal injuries such as strains, sprains, musculoskeletal injuries or instances where persons are trapped by the cage. Similarly, this also reduces the chance of the roll cage being damaged and becoming inoperable and preventing damage to the goods in the roll cage itself. As a result, the CAGEMOVER platform results in less financial and operational stress than a cage tug does.
Are there other benefits to the CAGEMOVER?
The operation and functionality of the CAGEMOVER is designed to be similar to the operation of traditional warehouse handling equipment such as pallet trucks. Adopting the CAGEMOVER over the cage tug offers significant benefits for operator efficiency, who can become accommodated and familiar with the equipment in a short time frame, providing better operational efficiency overall than the tug does.
